The last couple of weeks we have been working on acrostic poems. To create these poems, you write a word vertically and choose a word or phrase that begins with each letter to describe the word.
Here are some of their samples:
SANTA
by Grant
Snow is
Always falling in the
North Pole.
The reindeer fly at midnight,
And Santa gives presents to good girls and boys.
HOT COCOA
by Joseph
Hot cocoa is good.
Oh, it's delicious!
Tastes good, it does.
Cocoa!
Oh, so good with marshmallows!
Cocoa!
Oh, so good when you're cold!
Always makes you warm.
We also worked on ego poems, which are the same as acrostic poems, but you use your name, and write the poem about yourself.
JOSEPH
by Joseph
Jump start speedster, good at balancing
On
Soccer balls,
Equals
Pretty good
Hard working player.
GRANT
by Grant
Good soccer player.
Right hand works hard
And
Never gives up while climbing
Trees.
HANS
by Mom
Hungry boy
Always
Needs
Something to eat.

Excellent poems! You boys are very clever!
Those are wonderful poems. I taught those poems to my first graders last year and none of them even came close to yours! Your boys are so creative!
So darn creative! Very insightful. Bet they are hopping with christmas excitement. And where's new baby news?
Love those! We haven't done anything with poetry... besides read Shell Silverstein books. Your boys are so clever! And Hans poem is cute!
